Consultancy: Peter Block said: “you are consulting any time you are trying to change or improve a situation but have no direct control over the implementation. If you have direct control you are managing, not consulting.” I work systemically with large and small organisations, helping them identify and achieve their objectives and tailoring approaches to their unique identity.

Facilitation: The definition of facilitation is "making it easy to learn" or "to ease a process". What a facilitator does is more than just this. It’s about empowering and transforming individuals, so they can widen their horizons, set and achieve their own goals and realise their (and their organisation’s) potential. I work with individuals and large and small groups, enabling all members to contribute to and work with organisational change.

Training: Training has been described as teaching (a person) a particular skill, piece of knowledge or type of behaviour. I work to clear aims and objectives and use a wide range of creative approaches to meet the learning styles of all participants. I believe in a learner centred approach to training, paying attention to the motivation of the learner, their past experiences and possible blocks, and the environment in which the learning takes place.

About me

As an experienced head of service with the NSPCC, I developed and led a team of senior consultants working across the UK and overseas for eight years.  I contributed to national policy or strategic working groups within and outside the NSPCC.

I have many years of project management experience, developing and producing learning resources, delivering on time and within budget.  I am familiar with child-care legislation as well as that relating to vulnerable adults within the UK, as well as working within an overseas context.

My professional background began as a probation officer specialising as a court welfare officer dealing with contested arrangements for children and then as manager of a social work team, specialising in child protection.

I am a strong communicator at all levels and have a grasp of organisational cultures and systems. I have experience of strategic planning and delivering against objectives as well as a good understanding of current social care policy.

Above all, I have a passionate commitment to improving the lives of children, young people and vulnerable young adults, promoting their participation and working collaboratively with colleagues.
